Help preserve and share our church stories
If your congregation or parish has marked a milestone, celebrated an ordination or installation, or hosted another major event in the life of your faith community recently, then Lutheran Archives is keen to bolster its collection with items commemorating the occasion.
Remember to deposit photos, including details about them and any accompanying documentation such as service orders, programs, posters and invitations, with the Archives, so that this special ministry of the LCANZ can continue to gather and preserve the stories of the church to share with our Lutheran family and the wider public. Along with congregations and parishes, auxiliaries, departments and agencies of the church can contribute these items as an annual deposit with their other records.
You can check Lutheran Archives’ website via the link below for details about what they collect, information on depositing records, frequently asked questions and the relevant forms to complete. Alternatively, you can get in touch during opening hours to speak with an archivist for advice.
The Lutheran Archives collection spans more than 2,500 linear metres of records. These records have been created or used by individuals in daily religious life and congregations, departments and districts in undertaking the ministries of the church. Materials date from before the time of Lutheran migration to Australia and New Zealand in the 1830s until the present day, documenting LCANZ ministries and interactions across the globe.
Formats include manuscripts, audiovisual items, photographs, artefacts, periodicals and other published works. Most of these records are open to researchers, with some closed or restricted for privacy or cultural reasons.
