About the Local Mission Fund
The Lutheran Church of Australia and New Zealand is launching a new approach to Local Mission: the Local Mission Fund.
This new approach is designed to help enhance our mission culture across the church. The fund will assist congregations, districts and agencies as they seek new ways of reaching their neighbours and local communities with the gospel through collaboration and partnerships.
The Local Mission Fund will have a process to enable applications to resource and equip people for their mission work. This includes projects that have a flow-on effect on the work of our wider church.
We encourage you to consider what mission activity in your local community could be the focus of an application for support from this Local Mission Fund. This begins with prayer, as you ask the Lord to guide you as you seek to serve in his name.
Purpose and goals
The purpose of the Local Mission Fund is to enhance and equip a missional culture across the Lutheran Church of Australia and New Zealand.
The Mission Fund intends to promote collaborative mission across the church, through districts and within regions. It aims to support activities that are most needed by Lutheran congregations and agencies.
Who can apply?
The Mission Fund will support endeavours that help to build mission culture and equip people for mission across the church. Ideally projects will have broad Churchwide application. However, flexibility will be offered in understanding that some projects may have contextual limitations. There is no need for a one-size-fits-all approach. Congregations, districts and agencies of the Lutheran Church of Australia are encouraged to apply.
Most of the available funds will be known as the Local Mission Fund and will support significant projects that enhance a missional culture or foster a community’s mission with the collaboration of more than one entity, i.e. multiple districts, districts and agencies, districts and congregations, congregations and agencies, or multiple congregations (regions). The Mission Fund will also support more local, specific projects that have the potential to grow missional culture over time. This portion of the fund will be known as the Local Mission Seed Project Fund.
If your project would benefit from a grant that is offered for multiple years, such a grant may be considered. To be successful your application must show how your activity can work towards self-sustainability.
Grants from this fund are not available to support ministries that are part of the normal budgeting process of the congregation, district or entity, or items such as office equipment and maintenance of buildings.
Application process
Local Mission Seed Project Fund (up to $10,000 p/a)
Your application will have to include:
- Application form
- Detailed budget
- Letter of support from listed stakeholders
- Letter of support/endorsement from your district church council.
Local Mission Fund (up to $100,000 p/a)
- Please provide an expression of interest using the available form below. This gives the selection committee some high-level information to give you the go-ahead for your proposal prior to doing the substantial work of developing an application. If, however, you are confident your application meets the selection criteria (below), you may proceed with submitting an application form along with supporting documents.
- Upon go-ahead of your proposal, please provide your Local Mission Fund application, comprised of the following:
- Application form
- Detailed budget
- Letter of support from listed stakeholders
- Letter of support/endorsement from your district church council.
