Lutheran Earth Care

God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their multitude (Genesis 1:31–2:1).

Lutheran Earthcare Australia and New Zealand (LECANZ) was established to carry out the prime responsibility of Christians to be responsible stewards of creation.

All life on this planet has been created by God. It is therefore our duty as LCANZ members, congregations, groups and agencies to:

  • Intentionally and regularly include God’s gift of creation and our stewardship and care in prayer and worship, individual and group study and church decision-making.
  • Encourage, implement and model ways of living and working that minimise the production of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Examine the long-term implications of an economy that readily consumes and throws away.
  • Act to reduce waste and implement the sustainable use and recycling of earth’s resources.
  • Wrestle with issues of resource and environmental justice for poor communities, nations and future generations.
  • Engage in dialogue, discussion, shared learning and action with decision-makers and environmental groups in the wider community.

Worship Resources for the 2024 Season of Creation, developed in conjunction with the Commission on Worship are now available at the LCANZ Worship Planning Page.

Queensland Churches’ Environmental Network has released a free Apple & Android App which has 34 Daily Devotions for the Season of Creation from 1 September to 4 October. Search 'Season of Creation' on Apple or Google App Stores.
