Our LCANZ bishops are calling the people of the church to set aside Sunday 8 October for a churchwide day of prayer focusing on the unity of the church. This is a significant day as it is just a year from the 2024 Convention of General Synod.
During July and August around 50 members of the Way Forward team and working groups devoted many hours to evaluating 60 submissions received from church members from across the LCANZ. The submissions were assessed against key criteria set by the General Church Board (GCB) and the College of Bishops
The eight Way Forward working groups appointed by the General Church Board and College of Bishops have been inducted and have commenced their tasks. As subject matter experts, they will support the project management team in coordinating the ordination Way Forward response.
The project team implementing the 2021–23 General Synod resolution on ordination is calling for models for a way forward in which the LCANZ could operate as ‘one church with two different practices of ordination’.
The General Church Board (GCB) and College of Bishops (CoB) have appointed the members of the eight working groups which will contribute to the preparation of the Ordination Way Forward proposal to come before the 2024 General Synod.
At the March meeting of the College of Bishops and the General Church Board which addressed the Ordination Way Forward Resolution from General Synod 2021–23, it was decided that the College of Bishops should provide guidance regarding the way the resolution is understood in the church.
