Gospel Fluency Workshop
Share the good news confidently
Jesus said to his disciples, ‘You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth’. Jesus has equipped you with everything you need to be his witnesses in your ‘Jerusalem’ – your local context.
Do you ever feel awkward, ill-equipped, unqualified, or unprepared to share the gospel? Do you know someone who is curious about the gospel, Jesus, or the Christian faith, but you just aren’t sure of the next steps? Do you wish you could more freely share the gospel in a natural way with your friends, family, workmates, or neighbours?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, a Gospel Fluency Workshop might be a great blessing for you and your congregation!
Offered by LCANZ Local Mission, the Gospel Fluency workshops are designed to give you a vocabulary, context and some actual practice in sharing the good news in words and actions with those around you.
Have you ever learned to speak a second language (or third or fourth)? There’s no easy way to become fluent in a new language. It takes practice and immersion in speaking, hearing and reading.
Do you feel comfortable speaking the good news of Jesus to others? When learning a new language, we need vocabulary, grammar and practice – it’s the same with learning to speak and share the gospel naturally. It’s good to have some words to share, a context in which to speak, and also, crucially, some practice that will build confidence! At first, it may feel awkward and clunky, but it gets easier and much more natural!
The Gospel Fluency Workshop includes several helpful, practical tools to help you grow in gospel fluency:
- time for prayer and an introduction to the importance of prayer in sharing the gospel
- biblical explorations equipping to be confident in God’s mission and call
- a practical way to map your relationships for the sake of the gospel
- an introduction to the critical importance of listening in gospel-sharing
- the chance to grow in gospel fluency through practice and reflection on your own situations
- an introduction to practical next steps for people who are curious about Jesus or the gospel
- many helpful resources for further training or study.
The workshop runs for around two and a half hours, so it fits well into a Saturday morning or weekday evening, for example.
If this sounds like a blessing, you can request an in-person facilitation of a Gospel Fluency Workshop for your congregation or a local cluster of congregations.
Alternatively, a facilitator’s outline, including PowerPoint slides, is available. We can train and coach a local facilitator by Zoom to lead the workshop in your context. A video of a live Gospel Fluency Workshop (filmed at St Paul’s Lutheran Church Box Hill) is also available as a resource for congregations and individuals. See our resources section below.
