With Jesus – Amazing!
We have not depended on made-up stories in making known to you the mighty coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. With our own eyes we saw his greatness. We were there when he was given honour and glory by God the Father, when the voice came to him from the Supreme Glory, saying, ‘This is my own dear Son, with whom I am well pleased!’ We ourselves heard this voice coming from heaven, when we were with him on the holy mountain. (verses 16-18)
Read 2 Peter 1:12-21
Oh no! I can’t believe it – that drowning feeling of love that only comes when you’re with a beloved. Powerful and amazing, and each time you walk and talk the feeling persists. If such love is fanned it persists through the years.
Even more stunning was Peter’s experience in the presence of Jesus on the mount of transfiguration. Seeing the dazzling light and hearing the voice of God proclaiming the majesty of Jesus could only bring awe, amazement, stunning incredulity from the beholders, and for Peter, the utter conviction that God had spoken. And, as Peter said later, ‘It all happened when we were with him’.
There is dazzling light in God’s word. Whenever we are with Jesus – in his word – we see his glory and majesty. If we are with him here we will also be with him when he comes in his glory. Can you wait?
Father, you spoke of your Son in whom you are well pleased. It pleased you to give him to me as an amazing gift of love. Teach me daily to walk with you and see his glory. Amen.
