Utterly meaningful!
“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless:’
What do people gain from all their labours at which they toil under the sun? (verses 2,3)
Read Ecclesiastes 1:1-11
King Solomon, a man blessed with great wisdom, wrote ‘Everything is meaningless! In another translation it says, “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity” He was pointing out the hollow and temporary gains from working for ‘stuff’ all our lives. It’s true, when you think about it! We strive all our lives to pay off a house, maybe an investment property, build a decent superannuation and then retire and eventually end up in a nursing home waiting for… the end. And that is if you are truly blessed with good health and a stable income to get that far. We truly are vain if our value is based on what we own, our ‘gains’. But you are rich indeed if your treasure is eternal life through Christ. For that treasure won’t rust nor can it be taken from you! Put your mind on things eternal today, friend, for the eternal one has you on his mind always! And that is utterly meaningful!
How do you define being rich?
Lord God, heavenly Father, thank you for reminding me what is really important in life; eternal life through Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen.
