Know God’s promises
When I am surrounded by troubles,
you keep me safe.
You oppose my angry enemies
and save me by your power.
You will do everything you have promised;
LORD, your love is eternal.
Complete the work that you have begun. (verses 7,8)
Read Psalm 138
I know someone who underlines all the promises God has given her in the Bible. It helps her to claim these promises for herself. Do you know that there are over two hundred in the New Testament alone?
God never breaks his promises. You can trust him in every one of them. He says, ‘If we confess our sins…he will keep his promise and…will forgive us’ (1 John 1:9). He also promises to take away your burdens: ‘Come to me…I will give you rest’ (Matthew 11:28).
The psalm writer trusted God and said with confidence, ‘You will do everything you have promised’.
Do you keep a record of what God has promised you through Jesus? Why not underline God’s promises, too, and claim them for yourself. They are meant for you.
Heavenly Father, you have given me so many promises. Open my ears to hear them, and then help me to claim them for myself. I trust you, Lord. Amen.
