God will rescue you
Hear my prayer,0 God;
listen to my words!
Proud people are coming to attack me;
cruel people are trying to kill me –
those who do not care about God
But God is my helper.
The LORD is my defender. (verses 2-4)
Read Psalm 54
Evil is so much a part of our fallen world, and everybody suffers. Statistics tell us that crime is on the increase, and no-one seems to have the answer as to how to handle it. Often the victim of crime ends up being the loser, while the criminal walks free. How often we hear the cry, ‘Where do you find justice?’ Our fallen world has no answer. Even our best attempts to get rid of evil end in failure.
Be thankful that you have a God who is just, a God who promises that in the end his justice will prevail. He will not allow your enemies to triumph over you, because you belong to him.
As you reach out to God in prayer in your times of need, remember his commitment to you through Jesus. He knows the depth of your hurts and struggles, but he also knows how fragile and short-lived the power of your enemies is. That’s why he cares for you. You may feel helpless and you may sometimes despair, but with the God of our Saviour Jesus Christ on your side you are a winner.
Thank you, God, for your loving commitment to me. Even when my enemies seem to be winning, I know that their power over me will soon come to an end, because of Jesus’ Easter victory. I trust in him. Amen.
