Back where you belong
The LORD said to my lord, the king,
‘Sit here on my right
until I put your enemies under your feet.’
From Zion the LORD will extend your royal power.
‘Rule over your enemies,’ he says. (verses 1,2)
Read Psalm 110
In history and literature there are many stories about the restoration of kings. After a period in exile, in the wilderness or in an underground disguise, the royal heir finally gets back the throne that is his birthright.
Jesus, after his ministry on earth, was restored to his rightful place in heaven at God’s right hand as the judge and ruler of all the world. Those who had been his enemies were now subject to his power and judgment. He would deal with them in mercy and justice.
By virtue of your baptism and through your faith in Christ, you are a member of the same royal heavenly family. However greatly you may suffer in this world, you can be sure that one day you also will be back where you belong. You will be reunited with God the Father and with Jesus Christ, your saviour and brother. There, in a place prepared for you, you will live for ever.
Lord Jesus, I worship you as the ruler of your kingdom. Thank you that I can look forward to living with you for ever in heaven. Amen.
