A special experience
While he was still speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them with its shadow; and the disciples were afraid as the cloud came over them. A voice said from the cloud, ‘This is my Son, whom I have chosen-listen to him!’
When the voice stopped, there was Jesus all alone. The disciples kept quiet about all this and told no one at that time anything they had seen. (verses 34-36)
Read Luke 9:28-36
A heavenly moment with Jesus. That’s what Peter, James and John had that day on the mountain. They saw Jesus in his heavenly clothes. They saw his majesty and glory, and they heard the talk of heaven. That talk was all about us, about how Jesus would die for us. And then there was the cloud, hiding the presence of God, and the Father anointing his Son: ‘This is my Son, whom I have chosen-listen to him!’ What a privilege it was to be there, and the disciples knew it.
Perhaps you have been given a heavenly experience, something that brought you very close to your Saviour. Many of God’s people have. St Paul tells us about the time he was taken up into heaven, where he heard things that human beings are not allowed to speak about (2 Corinthians 12:2-4).
Sometimes we’re afraid to tell others about these kinds of experiences because of what they might think. Perhaps this was why the disciples didn’t say anything about what they’d seen until much later. Don’t be afraid to speak of what you’ve experienced. Recognise the special love that Christ has shown you, and praise him for being so good to you.
Lord Jesus, thank you for bringing me to faith and allowing me to see your glory. Amen.
