The Child Safety Self-Assessment
All congregations that have children participating in regular worship, prayer or children's ministry are expected to complete the Self-Assessment (and Child Safety Plan) every two years, under the LCA's mandatory child safety responsibilities.
The Self-Assessment Guidelines provide you a step-by-step guide through the Self-Assessment process. They include tips for appointing assessors, details regarding the role of the assessor, ideas for gathering information, examples about how to collate and rate your findings, suggestions about what to include in your recommendations to council, and tips for council and leadership teams.
Completing the Child Safety Self-Assessment
The Child Safety Self-Assessment tool is web-based and user-friendly. It is to be completed by assessors once they have finished talking to people and gathering all their information.
The Self-Assessment Notetaker is a handy tool for taking notes, either on your laptop or by hand, during the information-gathering phase of the Self-Assessment.
The Self-Assessment does not have to be completed in one sitting. You can save and return to your work at any time. Once completed, it is automatically delivered to your chairperson. It also contains a summary PDF of all your findings, which you can print out. Click on the purple button below to start the Self-Assessment.
Child Safety Standards Learning Hub Resource
This resource is also available on the LCANZ Learning Hub (click here for access information). It is designed as an information, learning and resource hub for congregation members who are undertaking the child safety self-assessment and planning process. It is delivered in a simple and easy-to-use style. It even has a quick quiz at the end to make sure you have covered all the bases. It also contains links to numerous resources outside the LCANZ. Those with LCA email addresses can access the Learning Hub using the button on the LCA Portal.
