Volunteering opportunities
If you are considering nomination for membership on an LCANZ board, council, commission or committee, or wish to nominate someone for a position, you will need to complete this Nomination Form. Announcements about volunteer positions on LCA bodies are advertised through LCA eNews and, in some cases, The Lutheran. The details of the current vacancies are available below.
Pastor vacancy on the Committee for Lutheran Earth Care Australia New Zealand
The Standing Committee on Nominations, on behalf of the Commission for Social and Bioethical Questions (CSBQ), is inviting nominations from a pastor with a passion for earth care who has relevant interests, experience and the time to fill a vacancy that has arisen on this important new committee, which was approved by General Church Board in August 2019.
The committee of LECANZ consists of five members:
- one pastor
- four lay members.
Relevant skills, qualifications and experience include:
- environmental science and related fields
- education and training
- theological perspectives on care for creation
- practitioner in environmental and energy efficiency
- experience in public policy.
As with all appointed committees of the LCANZ, a working with children check is required for appointment to this committee, and persons nominating are required to indicate their willingness to comply with such a check and to complete Professional Standards training.
The term of appointment to the committee will align with the remainder of the current cycle of General Convention of Synod: this term of the 20th Synod will conclude about the end of 2024.
The charter of LECANZ includes:
- providing a web-based repository of earth care resources
- developing new resources and providing access to existing worship resources, study resources and devotional materials in the area of earth care, and to encourage their use by individuals, congregations and agencies in the LCANZ
- providing resources and support for congregations and agencies in the LCANZ to reduce their negative impacts on God’s creation
- providing advice to the LCANZ on issues related to the care of God’s creation, and encourage the development and adoption of policies consistent with earth care
- encouraging, supporting and coordinating with the existing and future earth care initiatives of congregations and agencies of the LCANZ
- liaising and coordinating with the many faith-based and secular groups who are also concerned with earth care.
The complete LECANZ charter can be found here and the current website is http://lutheranearthcare.lca.org.au/
The committee currently meets online, approximately eight times per year, for about two hours per meeting.
We believe that God has blessed our church with many talented people who have the ability to make an effective contribution to the life and work of the LCANZ. If you are interested in serving on this committee, or if you know of someone who might be interested, contact the chairperson of CSBQ, Dr Cathryn Hamilton (cathryn.hamilton@lca.org.au), or the current chair of the LECANZ committee, Dr Neil Bergmann (neil.bergmann@lca.org.au), for more information.
Please complete the nomination form found here and send it to nominations@lca.org.au.
Friends of Lutheran Archives, North Adelaide SA
Friends of Lutheran Archives (FoLA) meets nine times per year to tell the stories of God at work in our Lutheran Church. We are looking for a small team of people – to work in pairs – who could operate the live streaming equipment on a voluntary and rotation basis.
Meetings are held on Thursday evenings at Immanuel Lutheran Church, North Adelaide, for the months of February to October.
Full training will be provided.
Please contact Helen Schubert on 0447 740 711 or email FOLA@lca.org.au.
Lutheran Archives, Bowden SA
Where did Noah keep the bees? IN THE ARK-HIVE!
Lutheran Archives is launching a new volunteer program – the Busy Bee program! The program will consist of three weekly sessions to work collaboratively on a given set of materials – working bee style!
We are now seeking volunteers for our two first Busy Bee programs, in May and June. The details:
May working bee: listing vinyl and shellac records
Dates: Wednesday 11, 18 and 25 May
Times: 1.00pm to 3.30pm with afternoon tea provided
Venue: Lutheran Archives Reading Room, 27 Fourth St, Bowden
June working bee: listing and describing historical biographical material
Dates: Wednesday 8, 15 and 22 June
Times: 1.00pm to 3.30pm with afternoon tea provided
Venue: Lutheran Archives Reading Room, 27 Fourth St, Bowden
Both series of working bees require participants to have basic computer skills (word processing/typing) and a commitment to at least two of the three sessions. If you have a laptop, we would love it if you could bring it along, but if you can’t, you can still take part.
There is free off-street parking available at the archives. We also ask that all volunteers be double- or triple-vaccinated.
Please register your attendance by phoning Angela on 8340 4009 or emailing lutheran.archives@lca.org.au. Places are limited.
There will be more Busy Bee programs running throughout 2022, so if you can’t make the May or June sessions, keep your eye out for more.
OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE THE CHURCH
The LCA’s Judicial System has been established by the bylaws of the church to consider matters which are submitted to it for a determination as laid out in Article 10 of the constitution. These matters primarily concern ecclesiastical discipline, interpretation of LCA documents and disputes within the LCA. The General Church Board appoints a Tribunal Administrator and a Deputy Tribunal Administrator to manage the system.
The LCA is inviting nominations from people who may be interested in serving as the Deputy Tribunal Administrator. We are looking for people with a good understanding of the church, who have knowledge, skills and experience in specific areas such as complaints handling, dispute resolution and the law.
We believe that God has blessed our church with many talented people who have the ability to make an effective contribution to the life and work of the LCA. This may be an opportunity for you to serve or for you to encourage someone you know who has the required skills and knowledge mix to nominate.
If you wish to be considered for this voluntary position, please complete a nomination form here and forward it to nominations@lca.org.au.
If you want to learn more about the role before formally submitting your name for consideration, please contact the Tribunal Administrator, Peter Gerhardy, at peter.gerhardy@lca.org.au or phone 0456 425 957.
LCA International Mission is always seeking volunteers for work with our overseas partner churches. There are all sorts of opportunities for people with all sorts of skills. Take a look at the LCA International Mission website for videos and stories about short-term and long-term volunteering opportunities in Southeast Asia.
