Sharing Christ’s love across the airwaves

Lutheran Media provides Messages of hope content to over 40 radio stations, which broadcast to over 1200 frequencies.

I recently visited Flow FM, which transmits out of Roseworthy in South Australia. Flow is a commercial station licensed to broadcast in rural South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales and owned by Wayne. It was wonderful to hear Wayne’s vision for the station. With 24 per cent of Flow’s listeners involved in the agricultural industry and 78,000 vehicle movements a day on roads reached by Flow, Wayne ensures that a Christian message is regularly heard on the airwaves. Flow FM plays our Messages of hope 15-minute podcast on Sunday mornings and repeats it again on Sunday evenings. Our 60-second messages are played daily.

Mark, a volunteer presenter at Flow FM, hosts the ‘Sunday Service’ from 8am to 9am (or 7.30am to 8.30am via livestream for South Australian residents). Mark remarked that for some listeners, the radio can be their worship service when they can’t attend worship in person. I thank God that messages of God’s love for us are broadcast into homes and car radios (and into the cabin of headers!). You can listen to Flow FM from its website at www.flowfm.com.au

Daryl, the sales director from Positive Media, called in on Lutheran Media while he was holidaying in Adelaide. Positive Media is the parent company of 89.9 The Light, which broadcasts out of Melbourne and is a popular Christian radio station. Daryl shared that our Messages of hope content is ‘meeting the mark’ for their radio audience, as evidenced by their annual listener surveys. The Light FM play our 30-second messages.

Ian, the sales manager from 107.9 Life FM in Adelaide, says, ‘Messages of hope – they are heard everywhere’. Well, I can assure you that we’re not heard everywhere, but I’m amazed by how many stations play our content. You can find an updated list of stations at www.lutheranmedia.org.au/where-we-are-found

Our aim is for our radio content to connect with people who have an interest in Jesus and Christianity but may not know much about the Christian faith and are yet to realise the joy of a personal relationship with Jesus. In practice, this means we don’t use theological words like justification and sanctification, but we do point people to the hope we have in Christ and tell people that God loves them.

As you can imagine, producing new content keeps us busy and is an ongoing task. We’re excited to share our brand-new podcasts on disagreeing well and overseas aid, which will air in April. We’re also working on new content for Mother’s Day, and an interview on the difficult topic of miscarriage will be sent to the radio stations for May.

Thank you, once again, for the prayer and financial support you provide to Lutheran Media. Thanks to you, Messages of hope are being heard across the radio waves and through our social media and web presence. You can find Messages of hope on Spotify and iTunes, too.

Tania Nelson is the manager of Lutheran Media.
