How did you get to church over the years?

Before seatbelts, smartphones and satellite navigation, getting to church was often an adventure in itself. Some walked dusty roads with family and neighbours. Others balanced on bicycles, climbed aboard a bus, rode in horse-drawn carts, or squeezed into the family car for the weekly journey to worship.

This week’s Flashback Friday takes us back to Trinity Lutheran Church, Henty, NSW, on 25 August 1937. The photograph captures a moment in time, complete with a line-up of vintage cars that have us guessing: Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Essex, Chrysler… or perhaps something else?

But the real story is about the people. What was your journey to church like? Did you travel with parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters? Was it a long trip across the paddocks or just a short walk down the road? Did everyone dress in their Sunday best? And what do you remember most about arriving at church each week?

Question for our motoring enthusiasts: Can you identify any of the cars in the 1937 photograph?
