Luther League Convention 1966
AUSTRALIAN LUTHER LEAGUE CONVENTION
After the LCA was formed in October 1966, the Australian Luther League (an auxiliary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Australia) and the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Australia’s Lutheran Youth Association combined to form the Lutheran Youth of Australia. Thanks to Lutheran Archives, you can see this photo (reference number P06301 12397B) and many others depicting the history and service of Lutherans in Australia and New Zealand, in the Church House Exhibition Centre in Adelaide.
Were you, or someone you know, among this crowd at the final Australian Luther League convention in Albury, NSW, from 31 August to 5 September 1966?

STUDENTS AND FRIENDS
Lutheran young people also made one of the earliest bridges across synodical divides, with the Lutheran Student Fellowship (LSF) on tertiary campuses founded independently of the two synods in the 1950s.
Records show a student study group operating by 1944, and after a short hiatus, the group re-formed. The Lutheran Student Fellowship (LSF) held its first meeting on 22 March 1954, offering retreats, camps and activities for spiritual and intellectual growth. LSF groups spread through Adelaide tertiary institutions and then nationally. Around 2004, the movement became known as Lutheran Students and Friends, continuing to support students in faith and friendship today.
YOUTH IN THE LCA
Over the 20th century, youth became more visible in congregational life. Evening services aimed at young people and students often featured bands, drama and youth-led worship. Camping ministries across most LCA districts have long been an important way for the church to connect with young people.
