Christmas for children
Many outside the church view Christmas as a time for children, focusing on nativity plays and the trimmings of Christmas. The story of a baby being born in a stable with angels, shepherds and wise men is not offensive, and many non-Christians are happy for their children to learn this story. What a wonderful way, then, to witness to our families and share the news of God’s love for the world in the coming of Jesus.
Each year, I have produced a new type of activity for children to help them know about the story and share God’s love for each of them. Christmas is a family time lending itself to the opportunity to help focus our families on Christ among the busyness. Our children hear the story of Jesus’ birth: from the journey to Bethlehem to the shepherds, angels and wise men. Apart from listening to and telling the story to our children, how can we help them see ‘Christ’ at Christmas?
Lutheran Tract Mission has many resources available to help you share the story in different ways: a storybook, colouring books, puzzles, a chatterbox, stickers, a stand-up set, a magnetic set and suggestions for devotions and talking with children!

‘For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace’ (Isaiah 9:6).
