Joy Mules was about three years old when she caught the music bug. In around 1938, the brass bands parading through the streets of Tanunda, in South Australia’s Barossa Valley, drew her away from her mother’s side to march off with one of them.

Having noticed the lack of a genuinely rural Australian devotion resource, Pastor Stephen Jaensch encouraged his congregation at Emerald in Queensland to join him in producing something to fill the need.

It’s hard to go past a friendly smile greeting you at the door before Sunday worship, or that warm cup of tea or coffee after service. Isn’t that what makes our faith communities welcoming? Whether new faces or regulars, being made to feel welcome is how we connect as a community.

Pastor Colin Scheer, the LCA’s oldest living pastor, turned 100 on 27 May and marked the occasion with a visit from his sister Val Kriewaldt and brother Kevin Scheer, who travelled from South Australia to be with him at St Paul’s Lutheran Aged Care at Caboolture in Queensland.

Faith Lutheran College, Plainland Queensland, has been recognised as one of the best non-government schools in Australia, after being included as one of the finalists in the Australian Education Awards in the ‘Secondary School of the Year – Non-government’ category.
