Five decades after the first Lutherans began a prayer group and built a church in Papua New Guinea’s West Sepik region, a new Lutheran evangelist has been commissioned to continue carrying the good news to people in the remote jungles of the nation’s northernmost province.

The LCANZ gives thanks for the service of Australian Lutheran Hanna Schulz, who has marked 10 years since she arrived in Papua New Guinea to start working with the people there through Bible translation.

Last month marked 135 years since the gospel of Jesus Christ first landed on the Papua New Guinea mainland, introduced by Pastor Johannes Flierl at Simbang Finschhafen, Morobe Province, on 12 July 1886.
