God in my everyday life

The LORD sets prisoners free and gives sight to the blind.
He lifts those who have fallen;
he loves his righteous people.
He protects the strangers who live in our land;
he helps widows and orphans,
but takes the wicked to their ruin. (verses 7b-9)

God is such a great total package, someone truly to be held in wonder and awe.
On the one hand he has the sort of power we can’t begin to comprehend. It’s the power that brought into being ‘heaven, earth, and sea, and all that is in them’ (verse 6).

But God is not only a figure of power. He’s also a person of infinite tenderness and compassion. Instead of standing aloof in his seat of power, he comes right down to our sorry, power-less level and lets his love and compassion flow. He sees someone living in a prison of fear and sets them free. He comes to another on the brink of despair and opens their eyes so they see hope instead. He comes to those who find themselves in the gutters of life and gently lifts them up. The love flows on and on, healing and helping. And it touches you and me.

How blessed we are to be able to call such a God ‘Father’.

Father-God, thank you for coming right down into my everyday life to love me as you do. Amen.
