Are you truly satisfied?

27 November 2018

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

I said to myself, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good:’ But that also proved to be meaningless. “Laughter;’ I said, “is madness. And what does pleasure accomplish? (verses 1,2)

Read Ecclesiastes 2:1-16

Today our western culture is obsessed with obtaining pleasure in any and every way. Life-style programs fill our televisions to cater for this obsession, like cooking shows and luxury travel destinations. The biggest trap of living for pleasure is that you are seeking to satisfy self. However, this thirst to satisfy one’s self can never be filled by what’s in the world. Solomon was right to say, “What does pleasure accomplish?” There is only one thing that can truly satisfy you and that is not a thing, it is a person. His name is Jesus Christ! Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35) Come to Jesus and eat the bread of life and drink of the waters that are eternal! Then by believing in him, you will be truly satisfied!

What are you hungry for today?

Lord Jesus Christ, I come again to you today, the bread of life. Fill me afresh today as I look to you and believe. Amen.

by Dean Mills, in ‘Time Out with the Shepherd’  (ACR, Australian Church Resources, 2017)
