Deliver us from evil

20 October 2018

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

God says, ‘I will save those who love me
and will protect those who acknowledge me as LORD.
When they call to me, I will answer them;
when they are in trouble, I will be with them.
I will rescue them and honour them.
I will reward them with long life;
I will save them.’ (verses 14-16)

Read Psalm 91:9-16

This is a wonderful promise. But sometimes you might pray, go to church and do all the right things, and still trouble comes your way. You still suffer from misery, pain and temptations. Why can’t God just take them all away so that you don’t suffer at   all?

God may not always stop you from suffering, but he will rescue you from despair. He may not always remove your hardships, but he will travel alongside you, strengthening you and even carrying you through it.

How comforting it is to know that God will answer your cries when you are in trouble. With God on your side, protecting you and being with you in your troubles, you will always experience his peace. You can hold him to his promise, especially when your last hour comes. This is when you will realise that his promise ultimately comes true. You will not experience death without hope, for you will be given the reward of eternal life.

Dear heavenly Father, please rescue me from every evil that comes my way and threatens to tear me away from you and your promises. When my last hour comes, take me home to be with you in heaven. Amen.
