Multiple choice

26 August 2018

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Because of this, many of Jesus’ followers turned back and would not go with him any more. So he asked the twelve disciples, ‘And you – would you also like to leave?’

Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. And now we believe and know that you are the Holy One who has come from God.’ (verses 66-69)

Read John 6: 56-69

Life today seems to be one long multiple choice. Take entertainment, for example: you can watch TV or a video, listen to a CD, play a TV game, surf the net, visit the cinema or theatre – to say nothing of settling down to play a game of Scrabble or read a good book. Just take your pick.

It’s the same with food. You can choose from Thai cuisine, Chinese, Greek, Italian, Turkish, African – the list goes on and on.

It’s that way with faith systems too. There’s Islam New Age movements, Hinduism, Buddhism and a whole bunch of other ‘isms’ s well. And then there’s Christianity.

Which faith does one choose in today’s multi-choice society?

When we know there’s only one religion that brings us into an eternal relationship with a real, alive God the choice is clear.

Maybe we need to pass on to others what we know, so that the choice is clear for them too.

Lord Jesus, you are the only one who can give eternal life. Use me so that others can come to know and accept that truth. Amen.
