Water for the forgotten
‘I was poor, because I had low levels of livelihood, and I faced shortages of food and basic necessities.’
Etagegne is a mum and farmer from rural Ethiopia. No matter how hard she worked, she struggled to support her two young boys and their elderly grandmother. Then, when conflict came to the region and weather disasters ruined crops, it seemed all hope was lost.
Your support today will help families like Etagegne’s receive a reliable supply of water through the new 635-metre irrigation channel!
You will help pay for cement, stone and supplies and also the work of 12 stone masons and Cash for Work labourers to construct the channel, including two flumes – elevated walled ‘bridges’ – where the irrigation channel has to cross gullies.
Etagegne now has access to water: ‘Now I am lucky and happy. I can grow vegetables twice a year, and during the rainy season, I also cultivate wheat, teff, and other crops.’
The new irrigation channel will provide water for another 223 families in Ethiopia!

Prayer points:
Pray for:
- the millions forcibly displaced in Ethiopia, both those who cross borders and those who are displaced within
- the victims of the terrible Gofa mudslides, those who miraculously survived and are mourning the loss of family members and loved ones, and those still responding
- good rains in this rainy season for farmers who depend on rain for agriculture.
