Please pray for Myanmar
Please keep the nation, people and our partner churches in Myanmar in your prayers after the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake last week on Friday 28 March. Please pray for those who mourn, those who are waiting for news, those still trapped, and the courageous search and rescue workers who are tirelessly working around the clock to find survivors. Please also pray for those grieving the loss of life in the tower collapse in Bangkok, Thailand.
In Myanmar, church members and buildings in the mission fields in Mandalay, Myit Nge, Naypyidaw and Shan state have been severely impacted by the earthquake, leaving member families and congregations in distress and uncertainty. One partner pastor shared:
Several member houses have sustained structural damage, while others have been completely destroyed, displacing families and disrupting community life. Church members are facing immense challenges as they seek shelter, medical assistance, and basic necessities amid the ongoing aftermath. The affected communities are in urgent need of prayers, support and solidarity as they strive to rebuild their lives and continue their mission despite the devastation.
In the coming days, we will launch a special appeal to help our partner churches in Myanmar. Please stay tuned for more details. In the meantime, we invite you to join us in prayer and to reflect on these comforting words from Psalm 46:1,2: ‘God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.’
We also invite you to donate to ALWS’ Emergency Action appeal. This way, you can help where you are needed most and where you can be most effective.
In 2017, more than one million Rohingya people fled crisis in Myanmar to Bangladesh, where they now live in the world’s largest refugee camp at Cox’s Bazar. As the world responds to the Myanmar earthquake, ALWS fears the plight of the Rohingya people may be forgotten by the world. That is why ALWS is expanding your lifesaving aid to these families.
ALWS has proven reliable channels to ensure your help to these people can be delivered safely and your impact can be fully monitored.
