Anxiety
What’s the difference between worry and anxiety, and how do we stop being overwhelmed by things we can’t control? The LCANZ offers a range of resources to assist you as you cope with mental health challenges, specifically anxiety.
Lutheran Media
Anxiety has become an epidemic. Many of us are frazzled by family problems, stress at work, financial woes and a thousand other hassles. Anxiety comes in many forms: excessive worry, inability to make even the simplest decisions, discouraging thoughts, edginess, irritability and panic attacks to name a few.
How do you find peace when you feel anxious? Watch videos, listen to the interview podcasts and read the free downloadable booklets from Lutheran Media and Messages of hope to discover help and hope.

Child, Youth and Family Ministries
LCA Child, Youth and Family Ministries have a series of articles with linked resources to help families and individuals.
These include:
- Supporting our young people – Mental illness amongst young people in Australia is on the rise. As parents, ministry workers and caring adults, it is important for us to be aware of the statistics that are both alarming and perhaps overwhelming. Chances are you know at least one young person who is suffering from a mental illness.
- Processing the pain – We all need different ways of making meaning from our experiences. When we share our struggles with others it helps us to process the emotions and feelings we are wrestling with.
- How do we help when someone has one of those life-changing days? – When our friends or congregation members are in times of crisis, we are eager to help. But often when we call, we express our sympathy, and then say, 'Please let me know what I can do!' This may not be the most helpful way to support each other. Here are practical ideas on how to help.
Grow Ministries’ STAND Bible Study is designed to encourage you on your faith journey. Delve into the meaning of grace, understanding suffering, asking those deeper questions, and living in and boasting in the hope we have in Jesus Christ.

Health and Wellbeing resources
It’s important to look after your wellbeing. Ministry can be stressful for church workers and volunteers. To be in a position to minister and serve others, you need to be in a good place yourself. Self-care is essential, so LCA Church Worker Support has curated a small collection of resources that might be helpful.
Church Worker and Family Wellness and Support Program
The LCA is committed to the ongoing wellbeing of our church workers. The LCA’s Church Worker and Family Wellness and Support Program is one of the supports that we offer our church workers at no personal cost through Empatia. Their consultants are here to support our church workers through a variety of situations, including anxiety, depression and stress management. To learn more, visit our Wellness and Support Program webpage.
