Safe Church Training

By providing a Safe Church training program, we assist congregations and other bodies to promote high standards of ethical behaviour and care for all, especially for children and others in vulnerable circumstances. Our training is part of the LCA’s commitment to reflecting God’s love through the way we treat each other and those who come into contact with our church.

Registration

Safe Church Training needs to be refreshed every three years. The same training suits you whether this is your first time or you are renewing.

There are two ways to complete it – self-paced online, or a live online webinar. Both lead to the same accreditation, so choose whichever suits you better.

Level 1 is for everyone serving or volunteering in a congregation. Level 2 builds on Level 1 for those in governance and senior leadership – complete Level 1 first, or provide evidence of Recognition of Prior Learning.

Everyone taking part must register individually with their own email address, including people attending as a group, so that your participation can be credited.

Not sure which option to choose? Please contact the Safe Church Service Desk – safechurch@lca.org.au or 1800 418 588.

Option 1 – Self-paced online training (iLearn)

Level 1 Expand

Work through the training at your own pace on Australian Lutheran College’s iLearn platform – a mix of written content, videos, scenarios and activities. You can save your progress and come back to it later.

Level 1 has two modules and takes up to 180 minutes in total. You need to finish both to receive accreditation.

On completion of registration your details will be recorded, and you will receive an automated email with information on how to complete your enrolment. If the email has not arrived within an hour please check your junk mail. If you already have an iLearn account we will recognise it and confirm your enrolment.

Register for Level 1 self-paced training

You will choose your district and congregation or organisation on the registration form.

Level 2 Expand

Level 2 is one module and takes about 90 minutes.

Register for Level 2 self-paced training

Option 2 – Live online webinar (Zoom)

Level 1 Expand

Join a trainer live over Zoom. Level 1 runs as two separate 90-minute sessions – Induction and Safeguarding. You need to attend both.

What you will need: a reliable internet connection, a quiet space where you can focus, and a computer with audio and a webcam. Tablets and phones can be used, but you will be switching between screens – a second screen or device makes it easier. Installing the desktop Zoom app is an advantage.

Individuals, couples and groups are all welcome. Everyone must register individually with their own email address so that participation can be recorded. This mode of delivery allows easier support for those who do not have a computer or are not comfortable with self-paced online training.

After you register you will receive an email with the joining link, links to resources, and links to add the session to your calendar.

Register for a Level 1 webinar

If you have any questions about the training, please contact the Safe Church Service Desk – safechurch@lca.org.au or 1800 418 588.
