Depression

Whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things (Philippians 4:8).

Lutheran Media

Depression affects people of all ages, races, economic groups and genders. Depression challenges us not only physically and emotionally but also spiritually.

Lutheran Media's Dealing with Depression booklet explores some of the many causes of depression and suggests some appropriate courses of action to minimise its effects.

You can also listen to several Messages of hope programs and videos for encouragement and inspiration when dealing with depression.

Child, Youth and Family Ministry

Child, Youth and Family Ministries

LCA Child, Youth and Family Ministries have a series of articles with linked resources to help families and individuals.

These include:

  • Supporting our young people – Mental illness amongst young people in Australia is on the rise. As parents, ministry workers and caring adults, it is important for us to be aware of the statistics that are both alarming and perhaps overwhelming. Chances are you know at least one young person who is suffering from a mental illness.
  • Processing the pain – We all need different ways of making meaning from our experiences. When we share our struggles with others it helps us to process the emotions and feelings we are wrestling with.
  • How do we help when someone has one of those life-changing days? – When our friends or congregation members are in times of crisis, we are eager to help. But often when we call, we express our sympathy, and then say, 'Please let me know what I can do!' This may not be the most helpful way to support each other. Here are practical ideas on how to help.

Grow Ministries’ STAND Bible Study is designed to encourage you on your faith journey. Delve into the meaning of grace, understanding suffering, asking those deeper questions, and living in and boasting in the hope we have in Jesus Christ.

Health and Wellbeing resources

It’s important to look after your wellbeing. Ministry can be stressful for church workers and volunteers. To be in a position to minister and serve others, you need to be in a good place yourself. Self-care is essential, so LCA Church Worker Support has curated a small collection of resources that might be helpful.
