Teaching and library volunteers needed
While there are many volunteering opportunities available through LCA International Mission, two of the most urgent needs are for online English teaching support for the Lutheran Church in Cambodia (LCC) and library support for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea (ELC-PNG).
The LCC teaches English to open doors for the gospel to be shared as teachers show their students Christ-like love and help build deeper relationships between the church and non-believers. Although LCC English teachers are enthusiastic and invested in this ministry, most do not have teaching degrees and have requested mentorship as they serve.
To support them, LCA International Mission will run a 10-week online English program, for one hour each Saturday, beginning on 13 April 2024. Volunteers will be supplied with the curriculum used by LCC English teachers and will be able to offer advice on how to improve the current program and to implement new methods if necessary to improve teacher quality and student learning outcomes.
Volunteers require teaching experience, preferably in English.
Meanwhile, ELC-PNG seminary libraries are seeking the help of volunteers with librarian experience to develop and manage a system to file and organise the collection of books located in their libraries. You can accompany a former librarian currently living in Melbourne as she develops consistency among the PNG-based libraries and sets up an online cataloguing system in each of the seminaries.
