New Safe Church training met with approval

18 March 2025

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Safe Church training delivery has been met with approval across the LCA, with feedback flooding in from suburban and regional congregations following the rollout of the new training model late last year.

There were 109 participants in back-to-back Level 1 sessions last week. Here’s what they had to say.

One congregational leader said: ‘The participants found it to be the best version of training that they have completed for Safe Church over the years. The pace was very good, and the content was covered in a sensitive yet thorough manner. The polls were a great way for us to have a discussion and keep engaged.’

Another said: ‘The training was excellent and everyone here (17 people) had a really good time.’

And another: ‘Because we did it as a group no one felt pressured to have to have the correct answers. The in-between time to chat gave the opportunity to explore why other groups may have come up with different answers to ours.’

Safe Church training assists congregations in promoting the highest standards of ethical behaviour, which can be challenging to newcomers.

‘Our group was a little averse to the idea of reporting [abuse to authorities] and we had the opportunity to then discuss in a little more depth why this would be important and necessary and the reasons why people might not want to report.’

The training is part of the LCA’s commitment to reflecting God’s love through the way we treat each other and those who come into contact with our church.

Have you kept up with your Safe Church requirements? There are six LCANZ Safe Church training live online sessions scheduled for March and April.
