For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made by human hands, a mere copy of the true one, but he entered into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf (Hebrews 9:24).
Read Hebrews 9:24–28
What is the most beautiful worship space you have ever entered? Perhaps it was a grand cathedral, its stone arches stretching heavenward. Perhaps it was a simple bush chapel. Or perhaps it is your own church building – made beautiful not by architecture alone, but by memories, by shared prayers, by the presence of your church family.
Sometimes we step into a space that feels ‘thin’, as though the distance between heaven and earth has narrowed and God’s presence seems especially near. In holy communion, this becomes more than a feeling. God comes to us and gives us a foretaste of the heavenly feast, a glimpse of the day when the separation between him and us will be gone forever.
There is no greater comfort than Christ’s declaration from the cross: ‘It is finished.’ The sacrifices of the temple are complete. Our great High Priest has offered himself once for all. Nothing remains to secure our salvation. The Lamb of God has taken away the sin of the world and made us right with the Father, so that we may stand before his throne not in condemnation, but pure and blameless.
The next time you find yourself in a place of worship, pause to notice its beauty. Then, remember: even the most magnificent cathedral on earth cannot compare with the glory that awaits when Christ returns and brings us into the fullness of his presence. That will truly be a sight beyond imagination.
Lord Jesus, our great High Priest, we thank you for your once-for-all sacrifice, by which our salvation has been accomplished. Keep us steadfast in faith, that on the last day we may worship before your throne in everlasting glory. Amen.
