Have you thought about being a Christian counsellor?
As rates of mental distress continue to rise in Australian communities, the need for well-trained and faith-aware counsellors is greater than ever. In response, Australian Lutheran College (ALC) is partnering with the University of Divinity to offer a Bachelor of Counselling qualification.
This degree focuses on contemporary social issues, clinical best practice and spiritual integration. It is designed to equip students to walk alongside those struggling with mental health issues, providing support grounded in hope, courage and compassion. The course is accredited by the Australian Counselling Association and affirmed by the Christian Counsellors Association of Australia.
The Bachelor of Counselling prepares students for professional counselling roles in various settings in a way that appropriately integrates work and faith. The curriculum covers foundational counselling skills and emerging trends, including neuroscience, artificial intelligence in mental health, private practice business skills, and work-based learning. Students are taught by experienced clinicians and academics who guide them in developing both practical competence and spiritual wisdom.
The course, which takes three years full-time or up to nine years part-time to complete, would suit both school-leavers and those seeking a career change later in life. For students with prior study, ALC offers credits where appropriate. Personalised support is also offered to all students.
The next intake for the Bachelor of Counselling will be for Semester 1 2026, which begins on 23 February 2026. Applications must be submitted by early February.
