General Synod

LCANZ Bishop Paul Smith has urged the wider church to pray for the delegates, officials, organisers and volunteers who will meet for the in-person sessions of the LCANZ’s Convention of General Synod in Melbourne from 9 to 12 February.

Six proposals relating to the ordination of both women and men have been submitted for consideration by delegates at February’s in-person sessions of the 20th Convention of General Synod, to be held in Melbourne.

The GCB has agreed to hold the 20th regular Convention of General Synod in two parts: an online meeting in early October 2021, which will then be adjourned until the meeting resumes in-person at a location to be determined in 2022.

In recognition of the LCA/NZ’s commitment to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), young Lutheran artist Henry recently presented LCA Bishop John Henderson with a painting about reconciliation.

LCA Bishop John Henderson has called on all members to pray for the church’s leaders, and the delegates and organisers of next month’s 19th General Convention of Synod in Sydney as they prepare for the triennial meeting.

The time devoted to the ordination conversation did not prevent this General Convention of Synod supporting four proposals that commit the LCA/NZ to social involvement and action.
