Messages of Hope for depression and difficult family relationships

10 October 2023

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

In November, our Messages of Hope programs feature depression and difficult family relationships. When we consider being Christ in the world, how can we offer hope to families living with challenges such as disability, stress or relationship breakdowns? Lutheran Media and Messages of Hope offer a variety of videos, podcasts and booklets to offer hope to cope with life’s challenges. For more, go to messagesofhope.org.au

Helping someone with depression

How can we help someone through depression? Click here to watch this short video on depression.

‘Dealing with depression’ booklet

Depression affects people of all ages, races, economic groups and both genders. It can result from a specific event or a chemical imbalance in the nervous system. The causes are numerous, but depression must be dealt with effectively before it can be controlled. This booklet explores some of the many causes of depression and suggests some appropriate courses of action to minimize its effects. Click here to download and/or order the booklet.

MESSAGES OF HOPE IN NOVEMBER

Living water

‘Colin was a friend of mine. He drank too much. And underneath it all was a raging thirst. A thirst for love, for forgiveness, for approval.’

Are you thirsty? Are you thirsting for love, forgiveness and approval? Trying to quench those thirsts can be difficult, but there is a way. Listen as Noel Due shares stories that offer hope to quench those thirsts. Click here to listen to the program.

Overcoming depression

Depression can be debilitating. So, how can we help people through this challenge and offer some hope through depression? Click here to listen to the program.

Unlocking ability

‘They had already labelled her, never to do anything, never to be able to walk, talk or do anything. But I see the determination in her; I will not let the disability make her be disabled.’

Chris’ daughter Rachel was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder at three. After battling against doctors who didn’t believe her and even accused her of mistreating her daughter, Chris developed a fierce determination to trust her own instinct when it came to knowing what was best for Rachel. Click here to listen to Chris as she shares how, as Rachel’s parents, they continue to experience life and joy through Rachel’s eyes.

Parenting – coping with unexpected challenges

‘I was 15, and for some reason, contemplating what if I was given a child with a disability? Then thinking, I’m obviously the wrong person to have that kind of someone in my life!’

Katrina faced her biggest fear at the birth of her second child when she was 23. Listen as Katrina shares how she coped with challenges she didn’t understand. Find out what gave her strength and peace in raising a child with severe disabilities. Click here to listen to the program.
