His holy precious blood

15 April 2019

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

But Christ has already come as the High Priest of the good things that are already here. The tent in which he serves is greater and more perfect; it is not a tent made by human hands, that is, it is not a part of this created world. When Christ went through the tent and entered once and for all into the Most Holy Place, he did not take the blood of goats and bulls to offer as a sacrifice; rather, he took his own blood and obtained eternal salvation for us. (verses 11,12)

Read Hebrews 9:1-14

Not only is Christ far greater than the earthly high priests, who had the authority to take the blood of goats and bulls into the Holy of Holies of the temple, but he also took something far greater, his own holy and precious blood, to offer in the Holy of Holies of God’s own presence in heaven, to obtain eternal salvation for us.

Blood represents a person’s life, something so holy and precious that no price can be placed on it. God redeemed us, not with gold or silver but with the most precious thing in the whole world, Christ’s holy and precious blood and his innocent suffering and death—the life of the Son of God. It was the ultimate sacrifice.

And the result? We have been redeemed and given eternal salvation. It is a free gift that can only be received in faith.

He died that we might be forgiven,
He died to make us good;
That we might go at last to heaven,
Saved by his precious blood.
(Cecil Frances Alexander, 1823-1895)

Lord please let the sacrifice of your most holy and precious blood be my inspiration in life and my comfort in death. I Jove you, Lord Jesus. Amen.
