Our Master’s will

14 April 2019

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

As they were untying the donkey, its owners said to them, ‘Why are you untying it?’

‘The Master needs it,’ they answered, and they took the donkey to Jesus. Then they threw their cloaks on the animal and helped Jesus get on. As he rode on, people spread their cloaks on the road. (verses 33-36)

Read Luke 19:28-40

No ifs or buts. The disciples did as Jesus had instructed. They found the donkey and were untying it when its owners asked, ‘Why?’ Again, no ifs or buts. The owners accepted the disciples’ answer: ‘The Master needs it’.

The acceptance of Jesus’ will both by the disciples and the owners of the donkey is astonishing, especially in light of people’s scepticism and suspicion these days.

We have God’s will for us in the Bible, and we pray for God’s will to be done ‘on earth as it is in heaven’ (Matthew 6: 10).Yet somehow ifs and buts keep us from accepting what God wants for us.

God did not promise that his will would always be what you desire, but he has promised that he will always be with you. When God asks of you something that is difficult, pray that he will give you the faith so that you can say with the disciples and the donkey owners, ‘The Master needs it’.

Heavenly Father, when I pray ‘your will be done’, help me to really believe and accept that you are doing what is best for me. Amen.
