Anuha Connect Café opens its doors in Gatton
It is always a privilege to watch one of our organisations bring something truly special to life, and the opening of Anuha Connect Café in Gatton is exactly that kind of moment.
Anuha, a local provider of disability services in the Lockyer Valley has officially launched its latest venture – a café at Railway Street, Gatton, that is far more than just a place to grab a great coffee. Anuha Connect Café is a social enterprise designed to give people with disabilities meaningful employment and the opportunity to develop real vocational and social skills in a warm, welcoming environment.
The café offers a range of hot and cold beverages, light meals, and baked goods, all made in-house in the café’s commercial kitchen. Customers can also purchase Anuha’s well-known jams and condiments, alongside local arts and crafts, making it a genuine showcase of what the Lockyer Valley community has to offer. The kitchen and manufacturing work provide people with disabilities meaningful opportunities to gain practical hospitality and workforce skills.
For those who work closely alongside Anuha, seeing this café get off the ground is a proud moment. It reflects everything we believe in – that when people are given the right support, the right environment and genuine opportunity, they can achieve remarkable things.
Head chef and trainer Nathan Lane captures this spirit perfectly. ‘Our aim is to provide our community with great food, a relaxed atmosphere and showcase what can be achieved if you give someone the right support and guidance,’ he says. ‘It is great watching our staff develop their skills and grow in confidence.’
That growth in confidence is visible in the people working there every day. Madison, one of the café’s employees, puts it simply and beautifully: ‘I just love working here and really enjoy getting to meet so many new people.’
It is that kind of statement – straightforward, genuine and full of joy – that reminds us why this work matters so much.
Anuha’s roots in the Lockyer Valley run deep. The organisation was started by the local Peace Lutheran Church more than 40 years ago, founded in direct response to needs identified within the community. That commitment to finding meaningful ways to support and include people has never wavered.
Dr Neil Huth, chairperson of Peace Lutheran Church, Gatton, reflects on just how far that journey has come. ‘We’ve always found ways to find meaningful employment for our participants,’ he says. ‘It’s just wonderful to see our latest venture with the café get off the ground.’
There is something deeply community-minded about the way Anuha operates, and the café is a natural extension of that ethos. Rather than simply providing services, Anuha creates spaces where people can contribute, connect, and be seen as the capable, talented individuals they are.
For the Lockyer Valley community, Anuha Connect Café offers something genuinely valuable: a place where a good meal or a quality flat white comes with the knowledge that you are supporting local people to build meaningful lives. The café’s relaxed atmosphere and in-house kitchen mean that every visit supports not just a business, but a community.
The café is open Tuesday to Friday from 8am to 1.30pm, and is located on Railway Street, Gatton.
We are proud to have Anuha as part of our network, and we look forward to seeing the café continue to grow – one cup of coffee, one new skill and one confident smile at a time.
