Growing together in mission: Chinese leaders gather in Brisbane

30 March 2026

From 19 to 21 March 2026, Chinese Lutheran pastors and ministry leaders from Adelaide, Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney gathered at St Peters Lutheran College in Indooroopilly, Brisbane, for the 2026 Chinese Ministry Summit.

The last summit, held in 2014, helped build relationships and a shared vision among Chinese ministry pastors, church leaders and LCA bishops. More than a decade later, we are excited to continue that journey.

For more than three decades, Chinese Lutheran congregations have been growing across Australia and New Zealand, shaped by the LCANZ’s commitments to provide welcome and offer hospitality. This summit marked the first in-person summit in more than a decade.

Hosted by the Queensland Asian Lutheran Church (QAC), the two‑and‑a‑half‑day gathering featured three keynote presentations and a series of daily sessions exploring the theme ‘Growing together in mission’. Conversations were thoughtful, honest and grounded in a spirit of kingdom partnership, offering fresh perspectives for mission and ministry across the LCANZ.

The atmosphere throughout the summit was enriched by QAC’s generous hospitality, with meals and refreshments provided each day. Their warmth and care created a welcoming environment that encouraged deep connection and collaboration.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the LCANZ Local Mission Fund for its generous support and guidance, which made this gathering possible. We also acknowledge the dedication of the working committee in shaping the program and St Peters Lutheran College for providing such an excellent venue.

As participants return to their home congregations, they do so with renewed purpose and unity. This summit affirmed that we are not simply individual churches – we are a family growing together in mission, called to serve the Lord with one body, one spirit and one hope.

The future of LCANZ mission and ministry is best discerned and lived out in community.

Our conviction remains clear: we are stronger together.

Brian Shek is the senior pastor of the Queensland Asian congregation and was previously the Asian Ministry coordinator for the LCA until 2019.
