Lutheran resources sow hope at Royal Adelaide Show
Earlier this month, thousands of visitors to the Royal Adelaide Show were met with the good news of Jesus Christ at the Christian Outreach stand, continuing a decades-long tradition of witness at one of South Australia’s largest annual events.
Located in the busy Jubilee Pavilion, the stand was staffed by more than 30 volunteers of all ages working in three-hour shifts across the nine-day show. The team engaged with visitors, offering Bibles, testaments and a wide range of resources, including booklets and tracts from Lutheran Tract Mission, Lutheran Media and other Christian organisations.
This year’s outreach theme asked the question, ‘If you could have anything at all … what would it be?’ A large banner and accompanying tract, depicting wealth, knowledge, success, health and caring for the world, challenged visitors to consider their deepest needs and pointed them to the God for whom all things are possible. More than 4,000 copies of this main tract were distributed, inviting conversations about faith and life.
Lutheran Tract Mission (LTM), supported by LLL Australia, provided more than 7,000 copies of their popular tracts to support the outreach. LTM has been supplying tracts to the interdenominational Adelaide Show Christian Outreach stand for more than 20 years.
This year’s event coincided with the arrival of a new shipment of LTM resources, making it a busy time for the ministry. Among the tracts shared with show-goers were timely and thought-provoking titles such as Is there a plan for the planet?, Why bother with Jesus? and God’s message to the world.
Lutheran Media also contributed to the stand with a wide range of booklets addressing real-life topics such as forgiveness, grief, loneliness, parenting, dementia and addiction, offering hope and encouragement to people facing a variety of life challenges.
Volunteers noted a positive response from the public, with less negativity than in previous years. The team gives thanks for those who have supported the outreach through prayer and donations and asks for continued prayer that the seeds sown bear fruit in people’s lives.
