Remembering birthdays

3 September 2025

Birthdays are gifts from God! Some of us view them in a different light as something we prefer not to celebrate and hope they will go away so that we don’t have to add another year to our age. Unfortunately, whether they are acknowledged or not, birthdays happen regardless.

Birthdays can be exciting. When my children were younger, it was fun to search for that much-wanted toy and see their faces light up on their birthdays. I still love shopping for them and my friends, but as we all get older, it seems to be harder – do we buy a need or a want? It doesn’t really matter, as long as we remember and celebrate!

I used to make cards, but time and postage make that harder. Birthdays are a great time to also connect with those we may have lost touch with.

Lutheran Tract Mission offers various birthday tracts, including leaflets, postcards, bookmarks and text cards. Not only can you add printed tracts to a birthday card, but if you only remember the person’s birthday on the day, you can send a birthday tract as an eTract with a personal message for free.

Job 22:25,26 says, ‘Let Almighty God be your gold, and let him be silver, piled high for you. Then you will always trust in God and find that he is the source of your joy.’ All LTM birthday tracts have some ‘gold or silver’ words from God to give others joy and let them know they are remembered.

Visit the Lutheran Tract Mission website at www.ltm.org.au and search for ‘birthday’ to explore these birthday resources.

Anne Hansen is Lutheran Tract Mission’s Tract Development Officer.
