Riverview Rest Home Completes and Approves New Constitution

1 October 2024

Riverview Lutheran Rest Home in Loxton has finalised and approved a new constitution, offering a streamlined and future-ready framework for the organisation.

After passing as a special resolution by the board and receiving formal acceptance from the District, it has now been sealed and confirmed as compliant by Consumer and Business Services.

The team at Riverview were ever so grateful for the support, historical information and referral to Simon Venus at Piper Alderman that helped to craft a document that is simpler yet highly effective, meeting all organisational needs.

The new constitution was designed to meet PBI requirements, ensure proper board member composition, and support the future of Riverview. Furthermore, it aligns with the organisation’s vision and regulatory standards, making it a significant step forward.

Simon Venus said that LCANZ agencies, such as aged care providers and other faith communities and care ministries, operate in a complex regulatory environment and should make sure their governance arrangements are up to date and fit for purpose, but also sympathetic to the overall Lutheran Church governance structure.

Having worked on many constitutions and governance issues for LCANZ bodies, Simon said that the Church had a sophisticated governance framework that is reflected in the LCANZ objects and its strategic direction. The overarching expected outcome of this focus on governance is greater confidence that all Lutheran aged care and community services are sustainable and well governed.  Having knowledge of documents such as the LCANZ constitution, the “Governance Framework” and the “Our Direction” strategy and the work of GCB and Synod around governance are important to understand the broader framework in which bodies such as aged care agencies sit and their important mission and ministry role in the Church.

For those who are considering updating their own constitution, Riverview’s CEO Nicolle Jachman can be a fantastic resource and is more than happy to share their experience.

The finalised constitution is publicly available on the ACNC website, offering further insight into Riverview’s updated framework.

Piper Alderman has a pro bono commitment to LCANZ and have supported its charitable activities such as “Walk My Way”. They offer discounted hourly rates to Lutheran Church bodies.
