Ongoing support for congregations through PSD transition
The LCANZ has been restructuring the way it delivers Safe Church training, responds to Professional Standards inquiries and handles complaints.
‘We have made these changes in response to feedback from across the church and after an extensive review of how we can best provide support for our congregations,’ said Tim Ross, the LCANZ’s Professional Standards Manager.
Previously training, inquiries and complaints were handled by Professional Standards Officers (PSOs) in each district. Now, all these services will be administered by the Professional Standards team at the Churchwide Office.
While the new structure is still being fine-tuned, including introducing an 1800 phone number, the Professional Standards team is available to assist and respond to questions about:
- Safe Church training
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
- Child safety
- Safety Management Online (SMO)
- Working with Children type checks
- Complaints
- Anything else related to keeping our people safe.

In the Queensland, NSW–ACT, Victoria–Tasmania and SA–NT Districts, some support is also being provided by the District Office staff, usually in the area of Working with Children Checks and the like.
Tim has thanked congregation leaders and Safe Church Coordinators for their invaluable service. ‘Thank you for your invaluable service and the work you do as Chair or Safe Church Coordinator in your congregation. Your commitment to serving in this role is a vital part of keeping the people in your congregation and your visitors safe. You are a blessing to us and to God’s people in your congregation and community,’ he said.
