Though the Lord is exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly; though lofty, he sees them from afar (Psalm 139:6).

‘Did you see my TikTok?’ a younger friend of mine asked. ‘I’m not on TikTok,’ I told him. I do watch YouTube, however. This young man was very surprised and went on to explain to me that everyone he knows wants a career as an influencer. He informed me that you can make a handy living from online content, with the bonus of becoming famous.
When people like your content, you can influence them to buy specific products or services and get paid endorsements. Perhaps I am too lazy to be a social media influencer.
In our reading today, the psalmist says that God is the ultimate influencer. He can make significant and meaningful changes in our lives without asking us to buy a product or join the latest fad. By his grace, our shame and fear are taken to the cross, and we receive worth and confidence by his Spirit. He has been ‘online’ forever, as he is always just a prayer away.
Even more incredibly, God makes us influencers as he is at work in us. He looks kindly upon those who trust in him and depend on his leading. As we speak of the amazing things God does in our lives and point to his faithfulness, we inevitably influence others. We don’t point to a product, theory or system. We point to the one who influenced the whole world by going to the cross. When we are seen by God and lifted, so others are drawn to his Spirit living in us. May Jesus influence us all so that we can live in grace and peace. May he also influence others through us.
Lord Jesus, your mercy and love know no bounds. You influence us for good and lift and nourish us daily. Thank you for your faithfulness. May we be your influencers in a world that cries out for your grace. Amen.
