Because of Easter, there’s nothing to fear

7 April 2020

by Pastor Reid Matthias
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

No-one is immune to fear. There is no inoculation, no antivenene, nothing that isolates us from it.

And now we have a new foe which brings with it fear, one without a flag or creed: a highly infectious, indiscriminate, world-rampaging virus that has wreaked havoc and panic. Our lives and livelihoods have changed in unprecedented ways.

Most Christians like to say they deal with fear through prayer and meditation. But the truth is that even Christians are not immune to the great sickness of fear.

Yet, amid an abyss of terror no different than the blackness that engulfed the Place of the Skull 2000 years ago, a light shines from the empty tomb.

Even though we understand that death has lost its power, our hearts reverberate with the sound of the stone rolling away. The light that cannot be overcome, in this world or the next, annihilates blind fear.

Because of the resurrection, what is there to fear? Has not Christ overcome?

‘The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?’ (Psalm 27:1,2)

While we may not be worshipping this Easter as we have always done, we can be assured that we stand with the entire world of believers and the communion of saints as we give all glory to the one who has not only overcome death, sin and the devil but also won the war on fear and disease.
