Fight to the end

5 March 2020

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Put on all the armour that God gives you, so that you will be able to stand up against the Devil’s evil tricks. For we are not fighting against human beings but against the wicked spiritual forces in the heavenly world, the rulers, authorities, and cosmic powers of this dark age. So put on God’s armour now! Then when the evil day comes, you will be able to resist the enemy’s attacks; and after fighting to the end, you will still hold your ground. (verses 11-13)

Read Ephesians 6:10-24

Christians are involved in a spiritual warfare. They need to be encouraged to fight the good fight of faith to the end. They need to know who the enemy is and need to be able to resist the enemy’s attacks. They will never win the victory in their own strength. They must put on all the armour that God gives and put on each piece with prayer.

What does the armour of God consist of? As a belt around your waist, there is the truth. We need to speak the truth in love. The devil will attack with false accusations, so hold up the shield of faith. Put on the helmet, which is the assurance of your salvation in Christ. As a sword, use the word of God, which the Holy Spirit gives.

Now is the time to build up your strength by receiving the word and the sacrament. Keep alert and never give up the fight.

Lord, help me to fight and resist the devil. Give me grace to claim victory in Christ. Amen.
