The sky’s the limit

28 February 2020

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

‘How long has he been like this?’ Jesus asked the father. ‘Ever since he was a child’, he replied. ‘Many times the evil spirit has tried to kill him by throwing him in the fire and into water. Have pity on us and help us, if you possibly can!’
‘Yes’, said Jesus, ‘if you yourself can! Everything is possible for the person who has faith.’   (verses 21-23)

Read Mark 9:14-29

Big problems, little problems – we all have them somewhere along life’s way. Some difficulties are enormous. A mother is worn out, emotionally and physically, as she cares for her schizophrenic son. A father of three young children walks out of the home for good one morning, leaving behind a hurting, broken family.

Can God really help in situations like these? Can he help you in your current difficulty?

In today’s reading Jesus tells a distraught father he can help him. In fact, he says, the sky’s the limit if he believes Jesus can help him.

Bring your particular burden to Jesus today. And believe that this Jesus – the same one who ordered evil spirits around and who even beat death itself – can handle your problem, however big and messy it might be.

Ask. Believe. And wait to see his love at work in your life.

Jesus, hear my cry for help. I believe that you can help me. Amen.
