Great Expectations

8 February 2020

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Praise the Lord. Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands. (verse 1)

Read Psalm 112:1-9

I enjoy playing a game of cricket. Not quite for Australia, and not as often as I would like. But I enjoy playing and watching the game. I had high expectations as a young boy to play for Australia but my expectations weren’t fulfilled. I can’t quite remember, but I probably even asked God to make it happen but with no success. God had other plans.

John the Baptist had expectations of God. He wanted the saviour of the world to come. So he asked Jesus if he was the one. Jesus replied with, “The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.” These events actually took place. Jesus did give sight to blind people. He healed the lame to walk. He cleansed people of their skin diseases. Jesus opened the ears of deaf people so that they can hear. He even raised people from the dead – now that would have been something to see!

The good news is that this good news is for you and me too. This good news is that Jesus is the saviour. Jesus is the one who heals. Jesus is the one who gives a new life, a new start. Jesus is the one who is always with us. Through times of tragedy, celebration and everything in between.

Thank you Jesus for saving me and giving me life with you. Guide me to always look to you. Amen
