My Saviour

18 December 2019

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

‘God is my saviour;
I will trust him and not be afraid.
The Lord gives me power and strength;
he is my saviour.
As fresh water brings joy to the thirsty,
so God’s people rejoice when he saves them.’
  (verses 2,3)

Read Isaiah 12:1-6

It was God the Holy Spirit who created faith in the heart of the disciple Thomas. At first Thomas doubted, but when he saw the risen Lord, he declared, ‘My Lord and my God’. I too need the Holy Spirit so that I too can trust in Jesus as my Saviour from sin and eternal death.

Years ago a farmer in USA was found kneeling at the grave of a soldier. Someone asked him, ‘Why do you pay so much attention to this grave? Is your son buried here?’ ‘No’, the farmer replied. ‘During the war I was drafted to go and fight. However, my neighbour, who had no family, went to the war and died from wounds he received. I have come here to write over his grave, ‘He died for me’.

Christ was your substitute. He fought the battle to rescue you from your sins and from hell. Yes, Jesus died for you.

Jesus, you died for me-in my place for my sins. Grant me grace now to live for you. Amen.
