In praise of the Lord of creation

12 January 2019

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Praise the Lord, you heavenly beings;
praise his glory and power.
Praise the Lord’s glorious name;
bow down before the Holy One when he appears
The voice of the Lord is heard on the seas;
the glorious God thunders,
and his voice echoes over the ocean. (verses 1-3)

Read Psalm 29

Millions of people, even those who don’t believe in God-from the astronomer who studies the heavens to the marine scientist who studies the depths of the sea-marvel at this world of ours and the way it functions. Is it any wonder, then, that God’s people can’t stop praising him for the wonders of his creation?

The writer of Psalm 29 urges the angels of heaven to join with him in praise of the Lord, the creator of the earth and heaven. The psalm writer hears the voice of the Lord in the might and majesty of creation and praises God as the one who rules over all.

What amazing feats of power and majesty the Lord God displays for us in his creation. We receive wonderful blessings from him every day as he continues to watch over us and keep us safe. Let’s praise him.

Sing praise to the Lord! thanksgiving and song
to him be outpoured all ages along;
for love in creation, for heaven restored,
for grace of salvation, sing praise to the Lord!

Henry Williams Baker (1821-77)
Together in Song 96 v 4
