Missionary might

1 August 2018

In the church at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon (called the Black), Lucius (from Cyrene), Manaen (who had been brought up with Governor Herod), and Saul. While they were serving the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said to them, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul, to do the work to which I have called them.’
They fasted and prayed, placed their hands on them, and sent them off. (verses 1-3)

Read Acts 13:1-12

Overseas missionaries are amazing people. In order to spread God’s word, they sometimes put themselves and their families in situations that are dangerous. They often live without the luxuries they are accustomed to. Sometimes they set out with little more than faith, relying on God for everything.

Saul and Barnabas obeyed God’s call and set off for the unknown. It’s significant to note, however, that not all the believers were sent out onto the road. Some were left behind to minister to friends, family and the local people.

All jobs done in God’s name are of equal value. Don’t feel that you would have to give up your lifestyle to fully serve the Lord. Christians are needed in the workplace, in homes, in offices, in schools. You can be a missionary in your own back yard. Don’t feel bad about being settled and striving to pay off your mortgage. But never forget where your money and possessions come from, and serve the Lord as you go.

You give me so much, Lord. Help me to live in your light and to spread your word wherever I go. Amen.
